Ezel Akay was born in 1961. He studied engineering at Bosphorus University, and theatre arts at Villanova University. He took part in many theatre productions as an actor and director before entering film production as a founding partner of IFR, where he was the director of more than 900 commercials. In 1996, he produced Dervis Zaim's feature film debut, "Somersault in a Coffin." The film won the highest number of international awards ever received by a Turkish film. Following this film, he was the executive producer of Yesim Ustaoglu's "Journey to the Sun", which also won many awards at international festivals including the prestigious Berlin Film Festival.

The film, which has already won 29 international awards, is now in the running for an Oscar within the category Best Foreign Language Film. In 2009, she appeared in her first leading role in "Kampuste Ciplak Ayaklar" (aka "Barefoot on Campus"). After that, the beautiful actress filmed two other films and played different roles. It will be fascinating to see the roles Ezgi Asaroglu will now choose. With "Aci Ask" (aka "Bitter Love") having seen her accepted as a good performer, she could, quite easily, be one of the best ever. Next would come a yet more challenging role than the others, in "En Mutlu Oldugum Yer", on April 9th, 2010.
