After turning 18, he went to the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC, where he took a theatre class, fell in love with acting and decided to pursue it. He is probably most known for his part as Jay Moriarty in Chasing Mavericks (2012), but he's also been in movies like Someday This Pain Will Be Useful to You (2011), John Dies at the End (2012), Under the Bed (2012), Sugar (2013), Project Almanac (2015), and We Are Your Friends (2015).

Among the artists who have worked at Victory Drive is Toronto-based jazz composer and saxophonist Richard Underhill. Jono has co-produced three albums of Underhill's, including the Juno award-winning "Tales from the Blue Lounge". He has also worked in various capacities with performers such as Kim Stockwood, Big Rude Jake, and The Tea Party.
